Genus Pionus is a group of about 8 different species of medium-sized parrots that are native to North, Central, and South America. The defining features of Pionus are their stocky build, bare eye ring, and short square tail. They tend to have relatively subdued coloration

On December 21st we visited Flying Colors Aviary and our friend Susan asked if we had room to take in a little dove that had been attacked. The scuffle left him without most of the toes on his left foot and a non-functional right eye.

On February 2nd 2019 Apryle and I visited Flying Colors Aviary on Widbey Island. Flying Colors Aviary is operated by Susan Hilliard and Mark Hockett in the small town of Langley. With several flights and two large aviaries, it is home to over 140 birds.

On a whim Apryle and I decided to adopt a pair of budgerigar parakeets. We named the birds: Banjo and Ravenna. They were an inseparable bonded pair. Banjo is the more garrulous, extroverted and adventuresome of the two. Banjo enjoys flying laps around the house
